Kora Designs
KORA merges the worlds of fashion and sustainable business development to the unique and mutual benefit of both. Her jewelry features locally-sourced recycled materials and are made by local artisans in African developing communities. Kora designs draws inspiration from the elemental properties of each material, ancient ceremonial jewelry and our frequent, wanderlust-driven travels as we seek out new and unique materials.
KORA launched in 2009 with horn cuffs made in Rwanda and has since expanded to include a variety of beautiful, locally-sourced material from Kenya and Ghana. KORA practices the idea of 'trade not aid' in order to directly provide the foundation for sustainable economic growth in these countries. To that end, we work closely with talented artisans to craft our designs into pieces of wearable art. The long-term sustainability of our producers is important to us and by paying fair prices for product, we provide the artisans with the crucial capital to build their businesses. We highly value craftsmanship, technical innovation and high quality materials - our dedication to these qualities is reflected in each piece. ,br>
Kora Designs one of a kind jewelry is now showing up in high fashion magazines worldwide. Kora Designs has appeared in Vogue, Elle, Harpers Bazaar among others. KORA means "work" in Kinyarwanda, Rwanda's native language.
